Educational, Inspirational, and Relatable | The Montgomery County Museum's Newest Exhibit
written by Amir Lahoud on
WUVT was graciously invited to attend the newest exhibit at the Montgomery Museum of Art & History, Above: A History of Montgomery County Aviation, where we were greeted with a plethora of paintings and historical documents outlining the significance and development of aviation in not only Montgomery County but also the greater Virginia area. Exhibits like these hold great educational value to the local community and do an excellent job preserving the history of the region. Best said by Casey Jenkins, Executive Director of the museum, exhibits like these are "educational, inspirational, and relatable from everyone [aged] zero to ninety-nine."
Aviation History
Above: A History of Montgomery County Aviation included features of a cutting-edge drone delivery service that begun in Christiansburg, collections of Christiansburg flight logs and administrative information about student pilots, WWII Gear from Christiansburg Veterans, and even recorded proof of a children-by-mail parcel system in 1913!
Aviation Art
The exhibit really went above in beyond in including a wide array of paintings and photography! My Favorite has to be the paintings of old aircraft layered on top of maps.
Museum Art
The Montgomery Museum of Art & History is located in an old bank, and my favorite part about the space was the abundance of miniature model art stored in the safe's safe deposit boxes. Isn't that so cool!
Overall, the Montgomery Museum of Art & History is a fine establishment, and admission is free (with a suggested donation of $5. . .), so you have no reason not to go and check out the newest exhibit!
