DJ Spotlight: DJ Daisy Buche!
written by Amir Lahoud on
What's your show called? How long have you been running it?
Although I don't have a show name, My DJ name is DJ Daisy Buche, as in in Daisy Buchanan from The Great Gatsby, but also Daisy Duke, like the jeans, because it combines the two things I love most, literature and denim together in harmony in my DJ name. During my shows, I typically stick to one genre per set, but I play all sorts of stuff. Sometimes I do strictly 60's music, ballads, yacht rock, guitar hero, just whatever I'm in the mood for the day, really!
What is your favorite part about radio and how do you first get involved?
When I was a wee freshman, I saw the WUVT booth at Gobbler Fest, and I originally signed up for only news because I didn't think I could be a DJ as it'd be too difficult. For a little bit I was strictly a news person but then I impulsively decided to do AM training right before the deadline to sign up. I'm glad I did because I love my show, and it's great because I still get to be a part of news through Tech Talk, A weekly talk show (Saturday 11:30AM-1:00PM) where we talk about all things Virginia Tech!
What's your most memorable moment with WUVT?
My favorite WUVT moment would be the debate. Our News Director, Felix, another news staff member, Zachary, and I all organized and hosted a debate between Karen Baker and Representative Morgan Griffith for the 9th District congressional race. We had them both in this studio right here and we asked them our own questions. It was Definitely the most involved in politics I've ever been, and it was a really cool moment.
Do you have anything else you'd like to add?
Listen to my Radiothon show! My theme this year is Great Gatsby, specifically what would Jay Gatsby listen to. It's on Monday from 1:00PM-2:30PM, and I'm going to play songs about dying in a car crash and songs about a green light on a dock, like Green Light by Lorde. I'm excited!
